For many allergy sufferers, this season has been especially rough so far. You can blame the pollen because there is so much of it in the air. The cold weather we had this spring has led to a late peak in pollen season. Anthony Del Signore, MD, assistant professor of otolaryngology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and director of rhinology and endoscopic skull base surgery at Mount Sinai Union Square, is staying busy this season. “Patients are coming in with a nasal drip, complaints of itchy and watery eyes. Everything that we typically see around this season may have been a little bit earlier, but because of the weather it’s really peaking right now,” said Dr. Del Signore. He thinks the pollen will stick around through May, with grass coming later this summer and into the fall. He suggested keeping your house clean and windows closed while using air filters to fight the pollen allergies.
