The FDA released a statement warning consumers to steer clear of sunscreen pills that claim to protect against sun damage in supplement form. They also revealed that they've sent warning letters to multiple companies illegally marketing such pills. Sunscreen pills cannot protect against sun damage, like burns or cancer, and should not be used in lieu of typical sunscreen products, per the FDA. "Most sunscreens contain physical and/or chemical UV blockers that absorb the sun's harmful rays and protect the skin from DNA damage and premature aging," said Gary Goldenberg, MD, assistant professor of dermatology and pathology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and director of the dermatology faculty practice at The Mount Sinai Hospital. You just can't get that in pill form.
