An estimated 3.2 million people in the U.S. have Hepatitis C. About 17,000 new Hepatitis C infections occur every year. However, the official number of reported Hepatitis C cases is not accurate because many people who are infected never have symptoms and therefore never come to the attention of medical or public health officials. According to Dr. Douglas Dieterich from The Mount Sinai Medical Center, one in 1,000 women will develop the disease after exposure to the virus. The majority of cases are asymptomatic. Learn more
