Samin K. Sharma, MD, Appointed Director of Clinical Cardiology and President of the Mount Sinai Heart Network
Dr. Sharma has also been named Dean of International Clinical Affiliations, expanding the international presence of The Mount Sinai Medical Center in Cardiology.
The Mount Sinai Medical Center today announced that Samin K. Sharma, MD, has been promoted to Director of Clinical Cardiology, Dean of International Clinical Affiliations, and President of the Mount Sinai Heart Network. Dr. Sharma is the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Mount Sinai, which has performed the most percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) in New York State, while achieving the highest safety rating ever given by the New York State Department of Health.
Dr. Sharma is widely recognized for his dedication to clinical quality and academic excellence. He has published extensively, taught internationally, and invented life-saving devices and techniques.
"Dr. Sharma is a nationally recognized cardiac interventionalist with a compelling vision of how to propel Mount Sinai forward in continuing to deliver the highest quality of care for our patients," said Valentin Fuster, MD, PhD, Physician-in-Chief of The Mount Sinai Medical Center, Director of Mount Sinai Heart, The Zena and Michael A. Weiner Cardiovascular Institute, and the Marie-Josée and Henry R. Kravis Center for Cardiovascular Health. "He is perfectly suited to help Mount Sinai grow locally and internationally as a world-class institution for treating cardiovascular disease."
As Director of Clinical Cardiology, Dr. Sharma will be responsible for operational issues related to Cardiology at the main campus and in the Mount Sinai network. Under the leadership of Dr. Fuster, Dr. Sharma’s oversight of Cardiology and all catheterization laboratories will expand to include off-site locations. Although he will continue to perform complex interventional cases, he will work to develop and implement growth strategies for Cardiology.
As President of the Mount Sinai Heart Network, Dr. Sharma will increase Mount Sinai's network of affiliated cardiologists in the tri-state area, working closely with Wayne Keathley, President and Chief Operating Officer of The Mount Sinai Hospital. They will develop a process to ensure that decisions regarding physician and practice relationships are reviewed and implemented in concert with the strategic plan of the Medical Center.

As Dean for International Clinical Affiliations, Dr. Sharma will serve as Mount Sinai’s clinical representative to develop relationships and affiliations worldwide. He is already building a state-of-the-art Heart Hospital in his native city of Jaipur, India. Working closely with Philip J. Landrigan, MD, MSc, Dean for Global Health, he will promote faculty exchanges, medical student and resident rotations, and affiliation agreements with other internationally renowned programs and centers.
