WCBS-TV - "Study: New Way to Get Rid of Eczema"
Researchers have found a new way to get rid of eczema in adults, which affects about 35 million Americans. While steroid creams often help control eczema, it can be resistant to treatment. Dr. Gary Goldenberg at The Mount Sinai Medical Center found that when patients used antibiotic ointment in addition to the usual steroid cream, the eczema cleared more often. Dr. Goldenberg is running a study to find out why it is so resistant. "More than half of adults with hand eczema have staph bacteria on their skin. It's not an infection but a colonization," he said.
