Staten Island Advance - "Staten Island's Richmond University Medical Center affiliates with Mount Sinai"

 – June 1, 2012 /Press Release/  ––

Two years ago, Richmond University Medical Center's board of trustees realized they could no longer go it alone if they wanted to improve their cardiac care services, increase their network of doctors and develop subspecialties like neurosurgery. So like many standalone, community-based hospitals grappling with lower reimbursements, they sought a partnership that would give them leverage and increase their bottom line. They found it in a clinical affiliation with the powerhouse The Mount Sinai Hospital. A major focus of the affiliation will be to restore cardiac care, particularly emergency cardiac catheterizations. "You can't be a great hospital or even a good hospital without having a strong cardiac program," said Dr. Kenneth L. Davis, President and CEO of The Mount Sinai Medical Center, adding that Mount Sinai cardiologists, along with other specialists, have already been making daily grand rounds with RUMC's physicians.
