"Primary Palliative Care Education in Specialty Oncology Training: More Work Is Needed"

The value of specialty palliative care, with the layers of support it provides for patients and families, is increasingly appreciated by physicians and professional organizations across the breadth of oncologic disciplines. Yet despite these benefits, adequate training of oncology clinicians in primary palliative care, consisting of care provided by nonspecialists in palliative care, has been notably limited, writes Kavita Dharmarajan , MD, MSc, an assistant professor of radiation oncology and palliative medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and colleagues.
