"Cardiac Surgery Outcomes May Be Tied to Glucose Levels"
For patients undergoing cardiac surgery, hyperglycemia is associated with worse outcomes for patients without diabetes, but with better outcomes for patients with insulin-treated diabetes, according to a study published in Diabetes Care. Giampaolo Greco, PhD, from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and colleagues conducted a multicenter cohort study in 4316 cardiac surgery patients who underwent surgery in 2010. The researchers found that increasing glucose levels correlated with a gradual worsening of outcomes among patients without diabetes. Learn more.
