About Me

Vincenzo Fiore holds the position of Assistant Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS), department of Psychiatry. He is specialised in methods for computational psychiatry, with a specific focus on decision-making in healthy and clinical populations. Dr. Fiore graduated from the Università degli studi di Siena (IT), with a major in cognitive science, he obtained a Master of Science by research in philosophy of mind at the University of Edinburgh (UK) and a PhD in psychobiology and psychopharmacology from the Sapienza, Università di Roma (IT). During his PhD he worked at the Italian National Research Council, where he acquired skills in computational modelling and artificial neural network programming.

After the PhD, dr. Fiore worked as a research associate at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging, University College London (UK), and at the University of Texas at Dallas (USA), before moving to the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, with an initial appointment as Associate Scientist, followed by one year as Instructor. During this time, he pursued research in the field of decision making in substance use disorder populations, developing new computational tools and seeking validation to model predictions in fMRI data analysis. These studies resulted in several publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals and presentations in international conferences. Finally, this combination of theory-driven and data-driven efforts has formed the core of a 2019 NIDA Grant Award (R21DA049243). This grant, which has Dr. Fiore in the role of Co-Investigator, aims at describing different phenotypes in addiction severity and vulnerability, potentially aiding the development of precision diagnosis and treatments.
