Dr. Tak Kwan is the founder of Chinatown Cardiology P.C. and has been a prominent figure in the Chinese community for over 20 years. He previously served as the President of the Chinese American Medical Society. For his continuous contribution to the community through generous donations and charitable services, he was awarded the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2010. Dr. Kwan earned his Medical Degree at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, which is also where he completed his Internal Medicine residency and Cardiovascular Disease fellowship. Subsequently, he did an advanced fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Wichita Heart Center, Kansas.
Dr. Kwan is an internationally renowned expert in general and interventional cardiology, and has been invited as a guest speaker and operator at various prestigious national and international cardiovascular conferences. He is an expert and pioneer in transradial cardiac catheterization, complex percutaneous coronary intervention, and structural heart intervention (aortic & mitral valvuloplasty and atrial septal defect/patent foramen ovale closure) and more recently, in transpedal lower extremity peripheral catheterization.
Currently, Dr. Kwan is the Director of Interventional Cardiology at Mount Sinai West, Co-Director of the Catheterization Laboratory at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, and Affiliate Medical Director of International Services at Mount Sinai Health. In addition, he holds the title of Professor of Medicine at Icahn School of Medicine as well as Executive Director of Asian Services at Mount Sinai Beth Israel.
Besides patient care, Dr. Kwan is active in clinical research. He has authored and co-authored hundreds of publications and serve in the editorial board in several prestigious journals. Dr. Kwan is multi-board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Nuclear Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Kwan speaks both Mandarin and Cantonese.
