About Me

Dr. Susan Bershad specializes in skin disorders of children and teenagers. She received her B.S. degree from Hunter College in the field of nutrition and earned her medical degree at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine.  Dr. Bershad completed her dermatology residency in the Department of Dermatology at The Mount Sinai Hospital and served as Chief Resident in her final year.  She is Board-certified in General and Surgical Dermatology and is subspecialty-certified in Pediatric and Adolescent Dermatology.

Dr. Bershad has over 25 years of experience in private practice and as a supervisory attending in the Mount Sinai Pediatric Dermatology Clinic. The dermatology house staff selected her as Teacher of the Year several times.

The American College of Physicians appointed Dr. Bershad as its expert for web-based physician education on acne, and in this role she wrote and updates the first widely accepted evidence-based acne treatment guidelines. She has served as principal investigator in acne clinical trials published in major journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, and has authored some of the most important papers on oral and topical retinoids for acne.   She is also an active advocate for patients' rights, having recently completed a 5-year term as a member of the Mount Sinai Institutional Review Board

In addition to acne, Dr. Bershad treats all pediatric and adolescent skin conditions, including vascular and pigmented birthmarks, atopic dermatitis and other skin rashes, benign growths, and the cutaneous manifestations of childhood diseases.
