Dr. Sumeet Singh Mitter is a native of Moorpark, California. He attended Georgetown University for his undergraduate studies in mathematics. He later received his medical degree from UCLA, during which time he was designated an NIH/Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholar and spent a year working in Fortaleza, Brazil. Thereafter, he completed his internal medicine residency training at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and fellowships in cardiology as well as heart failure & transplantation at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He joined the Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support and Cardiac Transplantation group at Mount Sinai in 2017.

His research interests include the use advanced cardiac imaging for the detection of subclinical myocardial dysfunction in various populations as well as for the diagnosis and management of infiltrative heart disease such as amyloidosis and sarcoidosis. He has participated in many large population level studies examining cardiovascular outcomes and has authored a number of peer reviewed scientific publications and feels fortunate to serve on local and national committees devoted to advanced heart disease.

In addition to inpatient and outpatient visits with patients, Dr. Mitter performs cardiac catheterizations and endomyocardial biopsies and also implants CardioMems devices for remote pulmonary artery pressure monitoring.
