About Me

Dr. Sekhar Upadhyayula has extensive experience that spans both clinical and academic settings throughout the United States. Among them are serving as Medical Director for numerous private practices, performing as Chief of the Division of Pain Medicine at Saint Vincent’s Hospital and consulting for Tufts University and the New York Rangers.

During his experience at New York Medical College (Saint Vincent’s Hospital), he assumed the position of Program Director of Pain Medicine Fellowships and was responsible for the Division of Pain Management’s obtainment of JCAHO accreditation.

One of the most fulfilling experiences he had as a physician in New York was to serve the city he made his home. Throughout the 9/11 crisis, he was the Director of the Burn Unit at Saint Vincent’s Hospital and spent several weeks at Ground Zero with its core medical team, assisting in search and rescue, medical care and cleanup. Subsequently, he was awarded with the Nargis-Dutt Memorial Humanitarian Award for Medical Efforts.

He is a member of and lecturer at The American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, The American Society of Anesthesiologists and The International Spinal Injection Society. His philanthropic efforts include spending several weeks per year in India promoting health reform and education through peer-to-peer networking and volunteering at free-care clinics.
