Sarah Shao, MD, joins the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Assistant Professor, working mainly in the FPA Primary Care Practice at 102nd Street. Dr. Shao received her medical degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. She completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center.

Dr. Shao specializes in managing primary preventative medicine as well as a wide spectrum of complex adult medical illnesses. She helps her patients make the most informed and best medical decisions that are right for them through communication, education and a shared decision-making process. Her areas of interest include primary disease prevention, diet and exercise, cardiovascular and metabolic illnesses, obesity, eating disorders, common sports injuries, sexual-reproductive health, and more.

Dr. shao completed sub-specialty training in Adolescent Medicine, and is a specialist in adolescent and young adult health. She is uniquely positioned to care for the physical and psychosocial issues in this age group, their healthcare needs, and help them smoothly transition into adult care. She is also interested in public and health policy, community health, and health education.
