About Me

Sangyoon Jason Shin, DO, is an Attending Physician of Department of Medicine at the Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Currently, he serves as Medical Director of Ambulatory Care for Mount Sinai Downtown which includes Union Square, The Blavatnik Family – Chelsea Medical Center and New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai.

Since January 2016, Dr. Shin has also served as Medical Director of Preoperative Services and Perioperative Quality/Safety for the Mount Sinai Downtown campus including New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai. He has led efforts to standardize and improve the preoperative screening process for surgical patients, yielding decreases in operating room case delays, cancellation rates within 24 hours, and rates of adverse events. Additionally, he created Mount Sinai Health System's universal access point of Pre-Admission Testing (PAT), a program which has increased convenience, efficiency, and satisfaction for our surgical patients.

In 2015, he was a lead hospitalist for the Surgical Co-Management service, collaborating with multiple surgical specialties to provide post-operative medical management. He currently serves as Medical Director of Inpatient Services for Mount Sinai's Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery (CTMS), where he helped to develop a novel interdisciplinary approach to care for our transgender surgical patients. These efforts led to commendation during the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) surveys as well as some of the highest Press Ganey scores in the region.

Prior to joining the Mount Sinai Health System, Dr. Shin served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and an Academic Hospitalist for the Northwell Health System. He completed his Internal Medicine training at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine consortium and earned his Bachelor of Arts from Tufts University.
