Dr. Saadi Ghatan is the Chair of Neurosurgery at Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside and Director of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Program of the Mount Sinai Health System. He is board certified in neurosurgery and pediatric neurosurgery, fellowship trained in pediatric neurosurgery, and treats neonates, children, adolescents, and adults at the Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai West, and Mount Sinai Beth Israel.
Dr. Ghatan completed his residency and a fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital in Seattle, Washington, as well as clinical and research fellowships in London, England.
His clinical interests include the treatment of nervous system conditions in the head, brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. Specifically, he treats patients with epilepsy, brain and spinal cord tumors, arteriovenous malformations, craniofacial disorders, chiari malformations, syringomyelia, tethered spinal cords, spasticity, and hydrocephalus. He is an expert in minimally invasive neurosurgery with endoscopy and brain mapping with electrophysiological monitoring, and he is also a leader in epilepsy surgery, including resective and palliative surgery (corpus callosotomy, VNS, RNS).
Dr. Ghatan spearheaded the growth and success of the Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Program at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and Mount Sinai West. His most recent research includes studies on epilepsy surgery outcomes and surgical treatment for epilepsies associated with vascular malformations, autism, and strokes.
Dr. Ghatan has authored numerous chapters, has authored and co-authored peer reviewed manuscripts and book chapters, and has presented posters and presentations at many regional, national and international meetings, including the American Epilepsy Society and the International Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Conference.
He is consistently named a Top Doctor by Castle Connolly and a Super Doctor. He participates in a telemedicine program to bring neurosurgical care to residents of Upstate New York who have limited access to world class neurosurgical centers and may be unable to travel easily to a major center.
