Rafaela Calabio, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Newborn Medicine in the Jack and Lucy Clark Department of Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Mount Sinai West. After receiving her medical degree and finishing her residency in the Philippines, she completed her fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Calabio currently serves as a Neonatologist at Mount Sinai West Hospital and has been the Chair of Quality Improvement Initiatives since 1991. Some of her QI projects included NICU CLABSI (Central Line-Associated Bacterial Infections) Reduction Project in coordination with New York State Perinatal Quality Collaborative (NYSPQC), Improving the Admission Temperature of Infants < 32 weeks gestation < 1500 grams Birth Weight, Discharge Planning in the NICU and WBN and Management of HIV-Exposed Newborns. She is also a member of the Mount Sinai West Hospital’s QI Committee. She is currently actively involved in the hospital’s Baby Friendly Health Initiatives.
