Dr. Michal Schnaider Beeri is a Professor of Psychiatry. Dr. Beeri joined the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2001. Dr. Beeri's B.A. and Masters degrees were awarded Cum Laude. She received her Ph.D. in rehabilitation psychology from Bar Ilan University in Israel in 2000. She has been continuously funded by the NIH since 2003. Specializing in geriatric psychology, her career has been fully devoted to the study of cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and dementia. A major focus of her work has been diabetes as a risk factor for dementia and AD. Her studies focus on lifestyle, blood, and genetic factors affecting the greater brain and cognitive impairment of diabetic individuals. Dr. Beeri's other major scientific focus is the neuropsychological and neurobiological aspects of cognition in the oldest-old. She has over 100 peer reviewed publications and numerous prestigious awards including the young investigator award of research excellence at Mount Sinai and Distinguished Reviewer Awards from the American Diabetes Association.
