About Me

Maritza Brown is the Chief of Nephrology at Elmhurst Medical Center. She was born and raised in Costa Rica and graduated from the Universidad Del Noreste De Medicina. She completed her residency and fellowship at Brookdale Hospital Center.

Dr. Brown has a strong interest in medical education and leadership.  Throughout her career she has served as an educator and mentor to medical students, residents, and fellows.  Her roles as an  Associate Program Director of Internal Medicine, Site Director for Clerkship and Sub-Internship for Icahn School of Medicine, Hemodialysis Director, and Physician Unit Manager permit her to fulfill her interests.

She has received the Frank A. Ross Award for teaching multiple times and is a proud recipient of NYC Health +Hospital Doctor’s Day Award. She is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology and is a Certified Hypertension Specialist.

She enjoys long walks near the sea shore and sitting on the boardwalk leisurely reading a mystery book while watching cyclists, skaters, and runners go by.
