About Me

Dr. Makini Chisolm-Straker is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine and Core Faculty in the Institute for Health Equity Research. She works as an emergency medicine physician at Mount Sinai Queens. Her research centers on invisible populations, including labor and sex trafficking survivors, and trans and genderqueer patients in emergency settings.
Dr. Chisolm-Straker’s work has been funded by the Emergency Medicine Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Prior to joining the faculty at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, she was a Global Emergency Medicine Fellow at Columbia University Medical Center. She works with community members around the world and social justice-oriented medical students. She is the co-founder of HEAL Trafficking, Inc (www.HEALtrafficking.org), an international network of professionals engaged in public health anti-trafficking work.
