Dr. Makini Chisolm-Straker, MPH is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Queens. A native New Yorker, she holds a Bachelors degree from Brown University in Religious Studies; her MD degree is also from Brown University. She completed her Emergency Medicine Residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Elmhurst Hospital Center. She also completed an International Emergency Medicine fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center. During her fellowship she earned a Masters in Public Health with a certificate in Public Health and Humanitarian Aid from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. She is board certified in Emergency Medicine. Dedicated to the improvement of the health of "invisible populations," for over 15 years Dr. Chisolm-Straker's work has focused on labor and sex trafficking and genderqueer health in emergency settings. She is the co-founder of HEAL Trafficking, Inc (www.HEALtrafficking.org), an international network of professionals engaged in public health anti-trafficking work.
