Luckshman Coomaralingam MD, MPH, MS, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health (EMPH) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is board-certified in Occupational Medicine and works in the Mount Sinai Selikoff Centers for Occupational Health. Dr. Coomaralingam sees patients as part of the World Trade Center Health Program and is involved with both the annual monitoring and treatment sides of the program. Dr. Coomaralingam is registered with the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board and also evaluates patients who have suffered from work-related injuries and illnesses.
Dr. Coomaralingam attended Lehigh University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and a Minor degree in Psychology. He also attended Lehigh for graduate school and completed a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. He attended Rutgers New Jersey Medical School where he received his medical degree and completed 2 years of an Internal Medicine residency before transitioning to the Occupational Medicine residency training program at Icahn Mount Sinai. He completed his Master’s in Public Health in Quantitative Methods: Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Rutgers University prior to coming to Mount Sinai. For his MPH thesis project, Dr. Coomaralingam worked with the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System (NJPIES) to conduct an epidemiologic review of call center data regarding synthetic cannabinoids. During his Occupational Medicine residency, Dr. Coomaralingam completed a rotation with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) at the U.S. Department of Labor in Washington D.C. and worked on a trenching injury data project as part of a larger campaign planned by OSHA for trenching education/awareness.
