Lisa Anderson, MD, is Director of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West, where she has been a faculty member since 1998. She is also an assistant professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive science at the Icahn School of Medicine. She is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and in the gynecologic oncology subspecialty. Dr. Anderson is an expert surgeon and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all gynecologic malignancies, including cancers of the vulva, vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tube, and ovary. She also offers surgical treatment of complicated non-cancerous gynecologic problems; treatment of premalignant cervical disease by colposcopy, laser, and LEEP; and detection and treatment of cervical dysplasia in HIV-positive women. Dr. Anderson earned her medical degree in 1980 at the University of Bologna, in Italy. She completed an internship in general surgery at Jersey City Medical Center in 1981, and then trained in obstetrics and gynecology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, where she received the 1986 Harold Schulman Award for Excellence in Research. Dr. Anderson received fellowship training in gynecologic oncology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, affiliated with Harvard University School of Medicine, graduating in 1991. From 1991-1998, she was on the faculty of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hahnemann University Hospital, in Philadelphia. Dr. Anderson has published research reports in areas of gynecologic oncology including cervical, ovarian, and endometrial cancer. She is an energetic, dedicated teacher of residents and medical students. In 2003, and again in 2012, the obstetrics and gynecology residents at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West, then known as St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, chose her as their best teacher, and recipient of the National Faculty Award of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She is a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
