Dr. Ishikawa moved to the US in 2009 and started his research career in the field of cardiac gene therapy with intent to approach cardiovascular diseases from more fundamental level through basic science. He was promoted to Assistant Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2013. He also obtained PhD degree in Biophysics and Systems Pharmacology (BSP) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2018.

His laboratory has been engaged in cardiac gene therapy projects for >10 years. More recently, his laboratory initiated a program in mechanical left ventricular unloading.
