Kiyo Ishikawa received his MD from the Nagoya University in 2002. Within 8 years of working as a cardiologist in Japan, he completed his fellowship in interventional cardiology and obtained board memberships in both internal medicine and cardiology. Dr. Ishikawa moved to the US in 2009 and started his research career in the field of cardiac gene therapy with intent to approach cardiovascular diseases from more fundamental level through basic science. He was promoted to Assistant Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2013. He also obtained PhD degree in Biophysics and Systems Pharmacology (BSP) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2018.
His laboratory has been engaged in cardiac gene therapy projects for >10 years. More recently, his laboratory initiated a program in mechanical left ventricular unloading. Using large animal models and sophisticated techniques to evaluate cardiac physiology, the laboratory is dedicated to promote clinical translation of novel therapeutic approaches.
