Dr. Zakhaleva is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, specializing in colon and rectal surgery Her practice encompasses surgical treatment of colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and benign anorectal conditions, such as hemorrhoids, fistulas, fissures, and fecal incontinence. Her area of expertise includes the use of robotic surgical treatments. In her role, she will act as the proctor in robotic surgery at Mount Sinai Brooklyn, where she will teach faculty how to use the technology so they may offer robotic techniques to their own patients.
Dr. Zakhaleva earned a medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, after which she completed an internship and residency in general surgery at Stony Brook Medical Center in NY. She went on to complete two fellowships in minimally invasive surgery and colon and rectal surgery at the Orlando Regional Medical Center and the Colon and Rectal Clinic of Orlando. Following the completion of her education and training, she practiced as a colorectal surgeon at the Physician's Alliance of Connecticut (PACT), in Branford, CT, from 2016-2018 before joining the team at Mount Sinai.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Zakhaleva also worked as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Quinnipiac University School of Medicine for three years. She has written multiple original contributions to peer reviewed publications and has presented at many national conferences.
