About Me

Dr. Olin is a Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Director of Vascular Medicine and the Vascular Diagnostic Laboratory in the Zena and Michael A. Wiener Cardiovascular Institute and Marie-Josée and Henry R. Kravis Center for Cardiovascular Health of The Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Dr. Olin is an internationally recognized expert in the field of Vascular Medicine. He has held numerous leadership positions and has been at the forefront of establishing Vascular Medicine as a distinct subspecialty of Cardiovascular Medicine. He was instrumental in the formation of the American Board of Vascular Medicine, the first ever board examination in this specialty. Dr. Olin is a past president of the Society for Vascular Medicine and recently has been awarded the highest honor from that society, Master of the Society for Vascular Medicine.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a Fellow of the American Heart Association.   Dr Olin received the inaugural Jess R Young, M.D. teaching award from the Society for Vascular Medicine and in 2013 he received the Simon Dack, M.D. teaching award from the fellows at the Zena and Michael A. Wiener Cardiovascular Institute and Marie-Josée and Henry R. Kravis Center for Cardiovascular Health of the Mount Sinai Medical Center. 

He is a past member of the peripheral vascular disease committee of the American College of Cardiology and past Chair of the Interdisciplinary Working Group on Atherosclerotic Peripheral Vascular Disease of the American Heart Association. He played an important role in the transformation of this working group to that of a Council of the American Heart Association.  He was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Vascular Medicine and is one of four physicians selected to direct a task force leading to an examination in the certification entitled Registered Physician in Vascular Ultrasound (RPVI).

Dr. Olin has been involved in clinical research involving venous thromboembolic disease, fibromuscular dysplasia, peripheral artery disease, renal artery disease and carotid artery disease. He is on the international steering committee for the EUCLID Trial to determine the most effective antiplatelet regimen in patients with peripheral artery disease. He is also on the international steering committee for placental stem cell therapy to treat patients with peripheral artery disease.  He is the chair of the steering committee and PI for the United States Registry for Fibromuscular Dysplasia and Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of the Fibromuscular Dysplasia Society of America. He is the Director for the Mount Sinai Heart Center for Fibromuscular Dysplasia Care and Research where he is working on defining the genetics of fibromuscular dysplasia.

Dr. Olin has authored more than 220 scientific papers in the peer review literature, 3 books and more than 70 book chapters. He has served on many writing committees of the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association. He chaired the writing committee on Performance Measures in Peripheral Arterial Disease, and the Scientific Statement from the American Heart Association entitled Fibromuscular Dysplasia: State of the Science and Critical Unanswered Questions.   He was a member of the task force on the development of Appropriate Use Criteria for vascular ultrasound.. He has published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Circulation, Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Journal of Vascular Surgery and Vascular Medicine to name a few. He is a past Associate Editor of the journal Vascular Medicine, and current Associate Editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and Editor of the textbook Peripheral Vascular Diseases.
