About Me

A prominent gastroenterologist and expert in irritable bowel syndrome, Jean W.Saleh, MD, is Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Director of The Irritable Bowel Syndrome Center at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s.

Dr. Saleh is a fellow of the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Gastroenterological Association.

Educated in Beirut with postdoctoral training in Paris  he earned  after four years the highest degree  certificate  in gastroenterology and hepatology  subspecialty. He then proceeded to New York and elected to spend four years in research in Metabolism and Nutrition at St.Luke’s Hospital. He joined , after, the division of gastroenterology at St.Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospital, and initiated the practice of laparoscopy under local anesthesia in the GI Unit at St. Luke’s  and authored a comprehensive book in 1988 on Laparoscopy. A highly skilled clinician and devoted educator and mentor, Dr.Saleh has figured prominently in the training of medical students and GI fellows throughout his career as attending physician of over 40 years. In 2006 , he was presented with the Distinguished Educator Award  by The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr.Saleh is a prodigious author of scholarly articles and training materials. He is a national and international lecturer on Irritable Bowel Syndrome and other gastrointestinal disorders. Dr. Saleh was a Visiting Professor in the Philippines, China and South Korea. He speaks five languages including English, French, Arabic, Spanish and Italian.

A dedicated NYSGE leader for over 30 years, Dr.Saleh founded the Society’s Annual GI Fellows Summer Course, now in its 31st year and continues to serve as course director and faculty. He played a key role over numerous years in the Annual New York Course, serving as faculty member, moderator or course director. Dr. Saleh Supported  the Society as an officer and council member for many years and held the position of NYSGE President in 1988. He is gratefully recognized by the NYSGE for his continuous accomplishments and contributions.
He continues presently to enjoy  a busy practice in gastroenterology.
