Dr. Ham is a clinical psychologist and Director of the Center for Child Trauma and Resilience. He spends much of his time training and consulting others in treating and working with children, families and adults who have experienced family trauma. He also provides psychotherapy through his faculty practice and collaborates on research in child traumatic stress and psychotherapy.

Dr. Ham primarily studies various aspects of child trauma, including genetic factors, psychophysiologic correlates, treatment development, and treatment dissemination. He also studies more general psychotherapy processes such as factors impacting therapeutic alliance.
Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device and biotechnology companies to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their relationships with such companies.
