About Me

Howard Choi, M.D., M.P.H., joined the faculty of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine in 2005. Dr. Choi is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) and is a board certified Independent Medical Examiner. His clinical interests include spinal cord injury (SCI) medicine, disability evaluations, and the rehabilitation of neurological and orthopedic disorders. Dr. Choi received his M.D. degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in 1997 and Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2004. He completed residency training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2001 and fellowship training in clinical SCI medicine at the VA Boston Healthcare System/Harvard Medical School in 2002. He then completed three years of research training at the Laboratory of Spinal Cord Injury and Neural Stem Cells of the Department of Neurosurgery, Brigham & Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School in 2005. Dr. Choi is the principal author of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Pocketpedia (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2003), co-author of the Pain Medicine Pocketpedia (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2011), and co-author of the upcoming 3rd edition of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Pocketpedia (2017). He has authored or co-authored original research articles in the American Journal of PM&R,Archives of PM&R, Journal of Neuroscience, Muscle Nerve, Neuroscience Letters, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. His awards include an American Medical Association Foundation National Leadership Award (2001) and the Foundation for PM&R New Investigator Award (2004).
