During her time at NYU's Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, Dr. Bender was the recipient of a  highly competitive, individual grant, the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (F32), under the auspices of the National Institutes of Health. Moreover, she is currently a co-Investigator and valued collaborator on several federally-funded grants aimed at improving the diagnostic parameters, treatment regimens, and overall quality of care provided to adults and children with a wide variety of neurological challenges. She is also consulting on multiple clinical trials of novel therapies - both pharmacologic agents and treatment based - throughout the Mount Sinai Health System.

Owing to her long-standing interest in the neuropsychological assessment of immigrant populations, Dr. Bender is currently the co-Chair of New York Neuropsychology Group’s Bilingual Task Force. Additionally, she is a Founding Member of two other consortia dedicated to reducing disparities in the quality of  healthcare provided to non-native English speakers via research, community outreach and advocacy.

Additionally, Dr. Bender is Director of Neuropsychology Training within The Mount Sinai Epilepsy Center. Through this training program, Dr. Bender provides pre- and post-doctoral students with the opportunity to receive supervised clinical and research experiences caring for adults and children with a variety of neuromedical and psychiatric disorders.
