Frank Nelson, MD, is Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is board certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. His fellowship training in gastroenterology included extensive experience in caring for patients with liver disease at one of the top liver treatment and transplant hospitals in the US. While there, he was selected as Chief Fellow by the fellowship program which acknowledged his clinical, educational and leadership skills. Prior to his fellowship, he completed a residency program in internal medicine at The Mount Sinai Hospital and obtained his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He is currently a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease.


Dr. Nelson’s clinical focus includes caring for patients with a range of liver conditions, such as viral hepatitis, metabolic and autoimmune liver disease, cirrhosis, complications of portal hypertension and diseases of the biliary system. He also treats patients with gastrointestinal conditions including pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, gastritis, colonic polyps and colon cancer. He has over 20 years of experience with gastrointestinal procedures including colonoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), both diagnostic and therapeutic, as well as therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, (ERCP).

Passionate about serving a diverse patient population, Dr. Nelson enjoys caring for the patients of the Queens community. He looks forward to community outreach through his presentations and discussions on hepatitis B and C as well as colorectal cancer. He is fluent in Spanish.
