About Me

Dr. Stern received his S.B. degree in Electric Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1973 and his M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School in 1976 through the Harvard-MIT Joint Program in Health Sciences and Technology. He completed his internal medicine residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center (1976-1979) and cardiology fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center (1979-1981).

Dr. Stern's area of interest has been clinical cardiology, often involving imaging. He directed the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (1981-1998) and Echocardiography Laboratory (1983-1994) at the James J. Peters (Bronx) Veterans Affairs Medical Center (a longstanding training site for Mount Sinai cardiology fellows) as well its Pacemaker Service (1982-1998) and Coumadin Clinic (1982-1997). In 1986, Dr. Stern began devoting more time to pursuits at Mount Sinai and has been working in the Echocardiography Laboratory since 1987.

Dr. Stern's other focus has been the clinical training of fellows, residents and medical students. In addition to his direct roles in conferences and laboratories, he has been the Associate Program Director of Mount Sinai's "Investigator Track" cardiology fellowship program (basic science and academics) since 1997. He established the "Urban Community" (clinical) cardiology fellowship program in 1999 is now its Associate Program Director. He is the recipient of a number of awards recognizing his teaching of medical residents and cardiology fellows.
