Donald Gardenier, DNP, RN, FNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN is Assistant Professor and Clinical Program Director in the Department of Medicine, Divisions of General Internal Medicine and Liver Diseases. He specializes in primary care and the care of individiuals with hepatitis C and other liver diseases. He joined the clinical staff at Mount Sinai in 1999 with a background in community-based primary care and house calls. Dr Gardenier co-founded Mount Sinai's primary care-based evaluation and treatment program for chronic hepatitis C. Since that time he has published and presented extensively on the subject of treating hepatitis C in medically and psychiatrically complicated populations. Dr Gardenier was a National Health Service Corps Scholar and Clinical Hepatology Fellow of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. He was appointed to the Mount Sinai faculty in 2006. Dr. Gardenier currently serves as Region 2 Director of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Previously, he served two terms as a board member of the American College of Nurse Practitioners. He is a member of the Hepatology Associates Committee of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and has served on numerous committees and task forces advocating for individuals with liver diseases. Dr. Gardenier edits the opinion column “Point/Counterpoint” in the Journal for Nurse Practitioners. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and of the American Academy of Nursing.
