Dr. Calcagno Mani obtained her Medical Degree in 2004 from the University of Genoa, in Italy, with a thesis focused on the development of a computational model of T CD8 cell memory. During this time she developed a keen interest in applying quantitative, computational methods to understand inflammation and immune cells dynamics. To hone her quantitative and computational skills she pursued a PhD in Computational Biology from the Mount Sinai Graduate School of Biological Sciences/New York University (2005-2010). As a Junior Faculty member her program (supported by a prestigious Scientist Development Grant from the American Heart Association) is focused on developing quantitative imaging-based metrics of atherosclerotic plaque permeability, inflammation and immune cell trafficking in mice with cardiovascular disease.
