About Me

Dr. Bhavesh Gala has practiced Cardiology since 2009. After graduating with his medical degree from Seth GS Medical College in India, Dr. Gala completed his rotating internship at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. He then moved to Coney Island Hospital for his residency in Internal Medicine where he served as Chief Resident during his final year. Dr. Gala continued on to his fellowship in Cardiology at Maimonides Medical Center where he won the Best Fellow Award, followed by a second fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Winthrop University Hospital. With his board certifications in Cardiovascular Medicine and Nuclear Cardiology, Dr. Gala's clinical interests include coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, lower extremity edema, and cardiomyopathy. Additionally, Dr. Gala is multilingual and can communicate with patients in English, Hindi, Gujarati, and Marathi.

In his professional community, Dr. Gala is a member of the Society of Coronary Angiography and Intervention and the American College of Cardiology. During his fellowship at Winthrop, Dr. Gala acted as co-investigator on several research topics. He also has several publications in his field and, in 2010, he performed the first use of the Impella 2.5 device in high risk angioplasty on Staten Island.

Dr. Gala explains that, in his view, the doctor-patient relationship is a two-way street, built on trust and mutual respect in which both parties take the responsibility of listening, planning, and trying to execute a plan with the goal of healthier years rather than just longer years. Honesty about health issues, limitations, and expectations of both parties should be part of the conversation at some point. He advises patients to eat a balanced diet with less processed foods and more natural ingredients, and exercise in some form or other, at least 5 days a week and 7 if you can. Be active!

In his spare time, Dr. Gala enjoys hiking and biking with his family. He also practices yoga and frequently goes on walks. He loves drawing with his kids and making crafts. Dr. Gala also enjoys cooking and trying new recipes, although (for some unknown reason), his wife has banned him from the kitchen, unless it is to clean up! He is now developing an interest in photography and plans to do more of it.
