Neuropsychology Externship Program

The Neuropsychological Testing and Evaluation Center in the Department of Psychiatry provides a neuropsychology externship for doctoral candidates in Psychology PhD or PsyD programs. The externship is an opportunity to gain experience in both neuropsychological assessment and psychotherapy.

The Neuropsychology Externship Program is a full-year, part-time (16 hours per week) training experience that provides an introduction to the purposes and uses of neuropsychological evaluation. Both inpatient and outpatient populations are served. Students receive training in neuropsychological assessment that includes administration, scoring, interpretation, and report writing. In addition, didactic seminars, lectures, weekly grand rounds, and monthly case conferences are an integral part of the training experience; this part of the program requires approximately two - three hours per week. Approximately one full testing battery is conducted weekly. Students receive one hour of weekly individual supervision.

Externs will also have one - two adult patients for individual psychotherapy seen through the Mount Sinai Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Disorder Clinic. Weekly face-to-face individual supervision (one hour) for these cases with experienced analytically or CBT oriented licensed psychologists will be provided.

This externship starts in July.
