Bariatric Surgery

Some overweight or obese individuals choose to pursue weight loss surgery. Excess weight is not a mental health problem, but psychological symptoms, including binge eating and problems with mood, are common before and after these surgeries.  Treatments like cognitive behavior therapy, which are known to be effective for eating or mood problems may also be helpful to adolescents and adults pre- or post-surgery.
