Treatment Programs

The Center of Excellence in Eating and Weight Disorders at Mount Sinai offers a variety of treatments. Our team includes licensed psychologists, child psychiatrists, clinical social workers, and dieticians. All have extensive experience and training in addressing eating disorders.

In addition, at Mount Sinai we are committed to training the next generation of eating disorder specialists. As a result, you might also receive treatment from our advanced post-doctoral fellows in psychology, and advanced psychology externs. All our advanced students are all under strict faculty supervision. We charge a lower fee for these services.

We have three outpatient programs:

Within these programs, we use a variety of types of treatments. Some of the most common methods are:

Medication Consultation and Management

Treating eating and weight disorders can also involve the use of medication. While medicine alone cannot cure an eating disorder, it can be very effective when combined with ongoing psychological therapy. Research studies in children, adolescents, and adults show that for some disorders the combination of medication and cognitive behavioral therapy is the most effective approach. We may also use medication to address other health problems associated with the eating disorder, such as anxiety and depression.

At our Center, our licensed psychiatrists provide medication consultation, management, and expert second opinion evaluations.
