Pulmonary function testing is an important adjunct to the diagnosis and management of many lung conditions.  Specific conditions in which lung function testing is important include:

  • Asthma
  • COPD (Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema)
  • Interstitial Lung Disease  
  • Pulmonary Fibrosis
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Neuromuscular Diseases (e.g., ALS, Myasthenia Gravis, Kyphoscoliosis)
  • Transplant evaluation
  • Pulmonary Hypertension
  • Hypoxia (i.e., low oxygen in the blood)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Decreased Exercise Tolerance
  • Chronic cough
  • Upper Airway Obstruction
  • Drug Monitoring (e.g., amiodarone, a drug for the heart)
  • High Altitude Evaluation (i.e., for individuals with lung conditions planning on traveling to a high altitude location)
    • Fitness Assessment
