Sexual transmission of hepatitis C virus (HCV) appears to be on the rise among HIV-infected men who have sex with men, according to the CDC. During the past ten years, reports have emerged from Europe of suspected sexual transmission of HCV, which in the past was primarily linked with injection drug use. In 2005, two cases of acute HCV infection in HIV-positive men who have sex with men were seen at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, according to a report in the July 22 issue of the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
