Mount Sinai's Department of Dermatology consistently demonstrates excellence in research and high-level expertise in treating such conditions as:

• Skin cancer
• Psoriasis
• Mycosis fungoides (cutaneous T-cell lymphoma)
• Eczema
• Alopecia Areata
• Acne
• Vitiligo
• Autoimmune blistering diseases (pemphigus vulgaris, bullous pemphigoid)
• Photodynamic therapy for skin cancer, actinic keratoses, and warts
• Medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology

Our research in skin cancer has led to the identification of a substance that suppresses the development of chemical- and ultraviolet-induced skin cancers in animal models. This new drug shows promise in the prevention of skin cancers, as well as age-related skin changes.

Our clinical trials in psoriasis have led to the introduction of many of the currently used topical and systemic therapies for psoriasis and for psoriatic arthritis.

In the past 25 years, our Department has been involved with the testing of almost every new major dermatologic product that has come to market. We have conducted studies for 35 major pharmaceutical companies on a wide variety of topics, including but not limited to psoriasis, photodamage, herpes, condyloma acuminata, onychomycosis, rosacea, eczema, acne, and seborrheic dermatitis.
