Of the 1.6 million Americans diagnosed with cancer every year, about half will have a cancer that spreads to bone. "One of the hallmarks of cancer is that it can spread to other tissues," says Dr. Ilya Iofin from The Mount Sinai Medical Center. "The vast majority of bone tumors are metastatic, which means the cancer cells have spread from another tissue like the breast or lung."
