Karyn Aalami Goodman, MD, MS, an internationally recognized expert in gastrointestinal cancers, joined the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai as Vice Chair for Research and Quality in the Department of Radiation Oncology, and Associate Director for Clinical Research at The Tisch Cancer Institute on September 16. Dr. Goodman will be responsible for developing the infrastructure and resources to support cancer clinical trial research across the Health System.

We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Karyn Aalami Goodman, MD, MS, as Vice Chair for Research and Quality in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS), and Associate Director for Clinical Research at The Tisch Cancer Institute.  Dr. Goodman will be responsible for developing the infrastructure and resources to support cancer clinical trial research across the Health System.

Dr. Goodman is an internationally recognized expert in gastrointestinal cancers. She has served in leadership roles on committees charged with establishing national treatment guidelines and best practices for numerous organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, and the American Society of Radiology. She currently serves as Co-Chair of the National Cancer Institute’s Gastrointestinal Steering Committee.

Dr. Goodman’s research focuses on improving outcomes and reducing toxicity in patients with gastrointestinal malignancies. With extensive experience as Principal Investigator on clinical trials, she is involved in development of therapeutic protocols combining radiation, chemotherapy, targeted agents, and immunotherapy. She has received numerous grant awards and has published over 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles, review articles, and book chapters.

Dr. Goodman was recruited to ISMMS from the University of Colorado Cancer Center, where she was Associate Director of Clinical Research. She was the head of gastrointestinal radiation oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center from 2007 to 2015. She began her academic medicine career on the faculty of Stanford University in 2004.

Dr. Goodman earned her MD from Stanford University and MS from Harvard School of Public Health. She completed an internship in internal medicine at Stanford and residency training in radiation oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering.
