Diagnosis

Imaging is key in diagnosing heart conditions. At Union Square, our cardiac and vascular imaging group offers a range of services that focus on you, your heart and its vascular system (the blood vessels that support your heart). These services include:

• Echocardiography—an ultrasound that can show the size of your heart, its structure, and activity
• Cardiac stress testing—sometimes called the “exercise test” and can help determine how well your heart handles the stress of exercise
• Nuclear cardiology—a noninvasive imaging technique that shows how well your heart pumps blood
• Carotid ultrasound—an ultrasound that provides an inside view of your carotid arteries, revealing their overall health
• Upper and lower extremity arterial and venous sonography—ultrasound tests that show how well blood flows through the arteries in both your arms and legs
• Abdominal aorta and iliac sonography—ultrasound tests that show how well blood flows through the arteries of your lower abdomen
• Transcranial Doppler—an ultrasound test that measures the speed of blood flow through your brain
• Renal artery sonography—an ultrasound that shows how well blood flows through the arteries that connect to your kidneys

Treatment

Treatment doesn’t have to interrupt your daily routine—Mount Sinai-Union Square provides outpatient diagnosis and heart health monitoring that focuses on anticoagulation and cardiac devices.

Our Anticoagulation Center is there to support you once an arrhythmia diagnosis has been made, or if there’s a history of blood clots. A team of experts supervises and will continually monitor your use of blood thinner medication (anticoagulants). In addition to managing your medication and adjusting your dose when needed, we also provide education and guidance to support your overall heart health.

Our Implantable Cardiac Device Clinic provides ongoing care for your implantable device, such as a pacemaker or internal-cardioverter defibrillator. We check to confirm that your device is working properly and meeting your heart health needs. We also reprogram your heart support device when necessary.

Our Center provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of deep and superficial veins in a compassionate environment. Our doctors are experts in preventing, identifying, and treating conditions that affect your veins carrying blood from your hands and feet to your heart (peripheral venous disease). We specialize in helping relieve vein compression and varicose vein symptoms such as leg pain, cramps, heaviness and swelling, restless leg syndrome, spider veins, and venous eczema. We treat you on an outpatient basis without surgery using radiofrequency ablation, ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy, and cosmetic sclerotherapy. We also perform minimally invasive phlebectomy procedures to remove veins close to the surface, eliminating unsightliness all related symptoms.
