Rehabilitation

Social workers in the department of rehabilitation are an integral part of an interdisciplinary team which includes physiatrists, nurses, neuropsychologists and the therapy disciplines. Social work staff participate in team conferences and family meetings. The ages served on the Rehabilitation Unit range from adolescent through geriatrics. Patients include those who are receiving rehabilitation due to spinal cord injury, brain injury, cerebral vascular accident, amputation, neuro-musculoskeletal conditions and other orthopedic problems.

Interventions may include but are not limited to:

  • Supportive counseling to patient/family/significant other
  • Patient and family education about illness and treatment process
  • Coordination of personal and community resources to facilitate the patient’s discharge plan and/or to provide specific services
