Business Analyst I

Job Description:

The Analyst is a key resource in the Department of Psychiatry, providing budgetary and administrative guidance in the financial management of awarded research grants and contracts. S/he works with closely with research investigators and members of the administrative team to ensure the fiscal health of research funds for various research teams in the Department and also assists with various special projects. These include: the evaluation of current and future operational and financial practices, development of new systems and/or processes, development of policies and procedures to achieve desired financial and operational goals.

Monitors budget, fund and or/general ledgers for various Investigators/research teams as assigned. Provides reports and variance analysis to Investigators and Department administrative team. Analyzes revenue cycle and revenue stream for assigned funds and develops spending plans for Investigators/research teams to prevent overspending
Communicates with accounting staff to obtain variance explanations, to alert them to wire transfers and to ensure that revenue and expenses are captured properly
Prepares regular and ad hoc reports and participates in follow-up discussions with business unit leadership
Prepare and submit purchase orders, contracts, change orders, invoices, check requests, petty cash vouchers, travel requests and travel vouchers, fund transfers and HRTS transactions as necessary
Recommend and implement approved changes for efficiencies, documenting those procedures
May input and review faculty/staff payroll and maintain appropriate records
May review Time and Effort reports for faculty and staff, prepare accruals and recharges for upload monthly general ledger updates

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Business (Accounting, Finance, or related field)
1-3 years related experience, preferably in an academic or research-oriented environment
MS Excel - Intermediate/Advanced
MS Word - Basic
Basic knowledge of accounting principles and practices
Familiarity with compiling financial reports reflecting financial status and operating procedures
Fxcellent written and oral communication skills
Exceptional attention to detail
Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management
Ability to work both independently and as an effective member of a team
