Pediatric Surgery

When your child is preparing for surgery, you want the very best – the most experienced surgeons using the most advanced techniques in the most state-of-the-art facilities. At Mount Sinai, we treat everyone from infants to children to teens and personalize our care so that it meets your child’s medical needs, taking into account your family’s circumstances.

Our highly skilled surgeons have extensive experience in performing the most advanced minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopic and thoracoscopic interventions in infants, children and adolescents. We specialize in neonatal surgery and in treating diseases and disorders of the chest and abdomen including pediatric cancer surgery. We also have an on-site pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is a level IV regional perinatal center.

We work closely with specialists in a variety of pediatric and adult fields to provide the best care for you and your child. Through our collaboration with pediatric radiology, pediatric anesthesiology, pediatric pathology, pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric pulmonary, and pediatric and neonatal intensivists, we offer customized treatment plans that best serve you and your child, while providing the optimal outcomes.

Compassionate Care

We understand the fear and anxiety that you experience when your child faces surgery. We work closely with your family to provide an experience that is as friendly, comfortable, supportive, and stress-free as possible. Our physicians work with child life specialists, therapists, and chaplains to make all procedures, big and small, as comfortable for you and your child as we can. Our nurse practitioner, Annie Harrington, PNP, is a particularly vital part of our team. Annie will guide your family through your office visits, assist with procedures, and remain your point of contact once you’ve left the hospital. As a cohesive team, we strive to offer you the most advanced care in the most sensitive way possible.

Our Meet Me at Mount Sinai program provides an opportunity for you and your child to preview the hospital experience prior to the operation and ask questions, so that everyone will be prepared when it is time for surgery.

We communicate regularly with you and are available 24/7 to answer any questions or concerns you might have. We keep you up-to-date on your child’s condition and progress on a regular basis and are happy to discuss the diagnosis, prognosis, and planned treatment approaches whenever you have questions.
