Space Planning and Facility Management

As patients return to Mount Sinai, we are striving to standardize patient procedures, protocols and screening to make sure our facilities are safe for all. You will see signage promoting social distancing. We will screen patients for symptoms. We are working hard to maintain the trust of our patients—and your confidence—every day.

Lobby and Entrance Guidelines and Protocols

  • Symptom screening in lobbies:
    • Temperature check
    • Symptoms check
    • Travel status check
  • Temperature check when entering (cutoff 100oF)
  • If patient enters with a face covering that is not a surgical mask (e.g.homemade face covering, bandanas, scarves), please provide a surgical mask (not N-95).
  • Plan for on-site pick up (Access-a-ride, Uber, Lyft, etc.)
  • For non- Mount Sinai owned facilities, please contact Real Estate for further direction

Elevator Policy

  • Monitor number of people depending on the size of elevator to allow for adequate social distancing
  • Signage will be prominently posted to promote social distancing
  • Employees are encouraged to use stairs, if available 

Front Desk & Waiting Rooms

  • Remove or separate chairs so that they are 6 feet apart to promote safe social distancing
  • Place stickers on chairs that should remain unoccupied
  • Plexiglas or barriers in testing areas are not recommended for front desk or waiting area spaces 
  • Ensure hand sanitizer is available
  • Reminder: Remove any materials, toys or other communal objects in the waiting room or exam room area

Examination Rooms

  • Negative pressure is not required in the examination rooms
