Wellness and Psychological First Aid
Psychological First Aid
Psychological first aid (PFA) is a framework for understanding all the ways that we can reduce distress and promote short and long-term coping in adults or children recently affected by trauma and disaster. It is not just for mental health professionals to use but for any health professional or disaster responder and often includes non-psychological actions that can have psychological benefits for survivors. This presentation spells out the different interventions that make up PFA for adults and for children and should enable everyone helping with the COVID-19 response to maximize the psychological impact of their work, whether by enhancing the things they already do or lending them new tools.
