Juan Wisnivesky, MD, DrPh, Appointed Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai
Juan Wisnivesky, MD, DrPH, Irene and Dr. Arthur M. Fishberg Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, has been appointed as Chief for the Division of General Internal Medicine for the Mount Sinai Health System. Dr. Wisnivesky succeeds Theresa Soriano, MD, MPH, who had served with distinction as Interim Chief since 2012 and who will transition to a new post with Mount Sinai Health Partners.
“As Vice Chair for Research, Dr. Wisnivesky has been a tremendous asset for the Department of Medicine,” said Barbara Murphy, MD, Murray M. Rosenberg Professor of Medicine and Chair of the Department of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Dean of Clinical Integration and Population Health, Mount Sinai Health System. “His vision has had a significant impact in a number of critical areas for our faculty, and we look forward to his continued success in his new position.”
Dr. Wisnivesky received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Buenos Aires School of Medicine in Argentina. He completed his residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Wisnivesky then did a fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College in pulmonary medicine, followed by one year of research training in the Division of Health Policy and Technology Assessment.
He also received a doctorate in Public Health from The Joseph L. Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. Dr. Wisnivesky joined Mount Sinai more than 15 years ago. He has published nearly 150 peer-reviewed articles and is a regular presenter at major conferences. His work currently focuses on asthma, cancer epidemiology and research into population health.
Dr. Soriano has also taken on her new role as Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Vulnerable Populations at Mount Sinai Health Partners. She will oversee the development of innovative clinical initiatives to improve the quality of care for people with complex medical or social needs.
