Summer traveling - be it for pleasure or business - can take diabetic patients out of their care routine. Experts say diabetics can experience unintended blood sugar spikes and health emergencies. "When you have diabetes, you're more prone to losing sensation in your feet," says Deena Adimoolam, MD, an assistant professor of endocrinology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. "You could step on a nail, shell or other item and not even know it, and an infection could develop. Always wear footwear so you're less likely to get injured."
