NY Times - "Ant Study Deepens Concern About Plastic Additives"
In 2009, researchers at The Mount Sinai Medical Center reported finding evidence suggesting that chemicals in plastics may contribute to obesity in girls. A researcher at François Rabelais University in Tours, France, has published a study revealing that all of the ants he has been studying are contaminated with plastic additives called phthalates, regardless of where the insects originated. Other scientists had reported such findings, but the researcher had brushed off the presence of those chemicals as contamination that occurred in the lab. Laboratory testing has shown that pretty much everyone has some degree of phthalates in their bodies. Learn more
